16 March 2008 - AJAX for ASP.NET 2.0

AJAX extensions have now been installed on all Windows 2003 servers. In order to use AJAX you must first request that your domain be setup to use ASP.NET 2.0.

17 January 2008 - Maintenance on NT47

On Saturday the 19th we will be doing maintenance on NT47 to resolve some issues. This will bring the server down for 2-3 hours (or longer). This will start at Midnight EST/ 5AM GMT.

The following servers will also undergo maintanance on Saturday/Sunday.

nt49
nt26
nt11
nt3
nt9

These will be done one after another from Saturday night - Sunday at Midnight EST.

NT47 is going to take the longest, it will start at Midnight this one could take up to 6 hours, we will be running nt49 at the same time. Next we will start NT26 and NT9 around 7 am, that will run until it's finished. After that (probably around noon) we will run 11 and 3.

Sorry about any inconvenience this will cause but it has to be done.

02 January 2008 - FrontPage Extensions removal - Final reminder.

FrontPage Extensions will be removed from all servers at the end of January so please make the necessary changes to your site to make sure they will function after that date.  You may still create html/asp pages using FP and publish them using FTP, just make sure you turn off any extensions related features.  See this site for information on how to use FrontPage with Extensions: http://www.microsoftfrontpage.com/content/articles/nofp_ext.html

23 November 2007 - System tune up scheduled

Further maintenance of the control panel will take place on Monday Nov26,11PM EST(Tuesday 4AM GMT). The CP may be down for several hours.

14 September 2007 - Frontpage Extentions to be removed.

Unix Frontpage Extensions reached EOL (end of life) on June 30th, 2006 and are no longer supported by Microsoft and Windows Frontpage Extensions are no longer actively developed. Because of these developments and the possible security risks they pose we have decided to remove Frontpage Extensions from all Unix and Windows servers on January 15th, 2008.

We recommend that you switch to an application that is not dependent on server side extension, such as Dreamweaver or Microsoft Expression Web to avoid any interruptions in service.

We realize that a number of our users rely on Frontpage and this will not be an easy transition. In an effort to ease the transition we have tried to give adequate time to allow you to prepare. We feel that January 15th,  is the right time to terminate support for Frontpage Extensions.

October 31st, 2007 - Support for Frontpage Extensions terminated, but it will remain enabled.

January 15th, 2008 - Frontpage Extensions will cease to work altogether when they are removed from both Unix and Windows servers.

12 September 2007 - Price changes

Due to the falling value of the US Dollar against the UK Pound and Euro we are now forced to increase our prices (but only slightly) and in the tradition of Banana Hosting we are giving you increased value in return. All plans have changed but have also increased in resources.

Banana Lite plans: $1/m increase: 5 extra mailboxes included (effective immediately)

Banana XL plans:   $3/m increase: supports 4 extra domains (from October 1st)
Banana 300 plans:  $3/m increase: +300mb disk (from October 1st)

Domain prices stay the same at $9.99/year.

18 August 2007 - Cp Maintainance

We will be doing some maintenance on the control panel today (Aug. 17th, 10 PM ET, 5 am gmt). The CP may be down for several hours. We will also be doing upgrades on Unix5, Unix7, and Unix8 at the same time those servers may be down for 15 to 30 minutes while we switch out some hardware.

24 April 2007 - PHP 5 on Unix servers

We are going to begin upgrading PHP on all Unix servers to version 5.2.1. We will also be upgrading FreeBSD to version 6.1 as well as other minor software updates. Each Unix server will need to be rebooted during the upgrade. Unix27 will be the first server upgraded on April 30th at 4 PM EDT (9am GMT). After everything goes smoothly with that server, we will post a schedule for the rest of the servers.

Unix28, which was just turned on, is already running PHP 5.2.1. All new signups will now go to this server.

To make the transition to PHP5 easier, we are enabling the zend.ze1_compatibility_mode directive by default. For true PHP5 functionality, you can disable this directive by putting the following line in an htaccess file in your web root:

php_flag zend.ze1_compatibility_mode Off

You can view the PHP Manual for more information on PHP5:

http://us2.php.net/manual/en/migration5.php

http://us2.php.net/manual/en/faq.migration5.php

Please make sure your sites are compatible with PHP5 before your server is upgraded!!

21 March 2007 - .Net 2.0 is now available!

After much delay ASP.NET 2.0 is finally here! If you would like access to this resource please send an email to the support department including your account username and request that you be moved to the new server.

There might be a minor downtime while the files are moved and you will not be able to modify your account for 24-48hrs. Please also note that due to demand of 2.0 the transfer may take 1-2 days to process.

09 February 2007 - Systems update

The control panel and server upgrades are more or less done now. We will email all users next week with information about the new features to expect, including .Net 2.0.

29 January 2007 - Major systems upgrade February 4/5th

On Sunday February 4th during the hours of approximately 11am - 11pm EST (6PM-6AM GMT) we will begin running check disk on all the Windows servers to make sure they are ready for the upgrade and that the drive(s) are 100% upgradeable. There will be sporadic reboots of the servers while this process is taking place so please be warned that you may experience downtime during this process.

On February 5th at 11:00PM ET (6AM GMT) we will begin to upgrade the H-Sphere Control Panel. This upgrade will more than likely take at least 8 hours; however that is an estimate and it may very well take longer due to the magnitude of this upgrade. * The majority of the downtime will affect the Control Panel server ONLY.*

There will be sporadic reboots of all Windows servers so the upgrade(s) can take affect. Please be warned that you may experience downtime during this upgrade and to allow for a minimum of 8 hours for the upgrade to complete.

Questions and Answers:

Q: Why is this upgrade being done during the week and not weekend?

A: The developers of the control panel only work during the week, therefore the upgrade will be done while they are available to assist us if anything goes wrong.

Q: Why at night for Eastern Time?

A: The upgrade takes a minimum of 8 hours to complete. By this time the developers in Europe are online to assist us.

Q: Will ASP.net 2.0 be supported?

A: Yes, asp.net 2.0 will be available on all NEW servers installed; we plan to install a new Windows server within 7 days of completion of the upgrade. Current customers can ask to be moved to this server and new customers can ask to also be put on this system. It will be off for new signups at first but any can be moved to this if they plan to use .net 2.0.

Q: Will Front Page still be supported even though it has reached EOL (End of Life) by Microsoft?

A: Yes, it is still supported in H-Sphere 2.5 and we will keep supporting it for all customers at this time. However, we will be setting a date within the coming year to phase out support for FrontPage then to be removed from all systems by 2008. This is due to the fact there will be no more FrontPage fixes, support or upgrades from Microsoft.

Q: Will SPF for emails be supported?

A: Hsphere 2.5 does support SPF, however at this time we have not had time to fully test it in Hsphere 2.5 on a live system.

We will do everything we can to make this upgrade as smooth possible. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this process. If you have any questions please please post in the forum bellow or in an email.
